The special course of International Law: Issues of Migration and Asylum, is a special discipline intended for first/second year LLM students. In this course, students will be taught the essentials of the existing normative and institutional international legal basis in the field governing migration generally and forced migration, in particular.


The present course syllabus, schemes and definitions have been developed by Associate Professor of the Department of Theory of Law and State of Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University) and all are taught within the Professional Cycle Disciplines (Basic Part) and intended for first year LLM students.

The course syllabus of “The Comparative Law Research” as well as the schemes on basic topics and definitions were created by S.B. Zinkovskiy (Candidate of Science (Law), Associate Professor). This course examines the development and contemporary state of Comparative law in the context of fundamental social and legal problems. The study of the course provides for students an opportunity to significantly expand the knowledge and, consequently, more deeply explore the controversial legal issues. The course is designed to reflect the latest achievements of science and practice in this area of expertise.

The course syllabus was designed to optimize the learning process, improve the efficiency of acquisition of knowledge by students, assist in the organization of students’ self-study.

Students will extend their ability to:

·   formulate and justify their own arguments and conclusions in seminar discussions;

·   communicate ideas and arguments effectively, with supporting evidence, in class discussion and in writing;

·   modify as well and defend their own position;

·   think critically and challenge assumptions;

·   use information technology for research and assignment presentation;

·   manage their time and organize their own study methods and workload;

·   work effectively with others as part of a team or group in seminar.

The course syllabus comprises:

·   sources for course studies;

·   glossary;

·   course studies recommendations;

·   student assessment and course evaluation.

 

This course as well as the schemes on basic topics and definitions allow students’ to pursue an in-depth study of a topic in the field of law. Also the courses ensure training which is directly relevant to research work and practical work.


The course "Protection of Human Rights in the UN system” is developed for the full-time students specialized in law. Its objective is to teach basic terminology and categories which are used in the international human rights law, basic human rights treaties etc.
The main objective is to familiarize students with such issues as establishment and development of basic princilples and norms of international human rights law, civilizational specificities of human rights and legal status of an individual in national and international law, development, elaboration and adoption of key human rights treaties and the activities of treaty bodies, activities of main and subsidiary bodies of the United Nations, introduce in the work of treaty bodies and different suggestions on the reform of the UN human rights machinery, develop skills of unassisted analysis of international treaties and practical application of the knowledge received.

The special course of International labour rights in the global economy is a special discipline intended for first/second year LLM students. In this course, students are familiarized with the international labour law as part of public international law from the human rights protection prospective. Students get knowledge and skills to use the elaborations of the International Labour Organization and combine that with instruments and mechanisms of protecting human rights at work as developed in frames of the general human rights protection system of the UN. The course is based on fundamentals of international law.

The course is not given in 2018-2019 ac.year.

Goals and objectives of discipline

To form students’ comprehensive view on the modern international legal mechanism of promotion and protection of certain groups rights, which have a number of distinctive features that predetermine their vulnerability, as well as persons who were (are) in a vulnerable position. To analyze the meaning of the legal terms «vulnerability», «vulnerable group», «vulnerable population», «vulnerable status» and its usage in the working papers of various UN organs,  specialized agencies and other international regional organization; to examine the main determinants of the increased vulnerability of certain groups of population such as children, disabled, old-aged; to study the influence of contemporary threats (globalization, natural disasters, man-made disasters, armed conflicts, etc.) on the vulnerability of an individual status; to introduce undergraduates to the history of the formation and progressive development of  international law in promoting and protecting the rights of vulnerable groups; …
